General purpose of the function

As an independent cook you support the Sous Chef and Head Chef in all preparations and activities in the kitchen. You prepare and cook dishes according to the recipes and planning. You support the ordering process and make sure that stocks are maintained in an efficient way. Ensure that the breakfast buffet is set up and stocked in a well-presented and appealing way every day.
Provide a satisfying food and beverage experience to each and every Element hotels guest in a friendly, energetic and timely manner. Responsible for assuring the guest is having a great time and/or relaxing while in the area. These Associates are passionate about guest service with the innate abilities to communicate and multitask. The ideal candidate takes ownership of their situation and follows up on every request. They are always attentive and are committed to making the most of the element hotels Food and Beverage ‘experience.’

Main tasks & Responsibilities

o Preparing high quality culinary dishes that are prepared with fresh ingredients.
o The maintenance of the mise-en-place during operating times, by conducting supply and editing tasks.
o Prepare nicely presented plates, dishes etc. by performing a la minute cooking activities, portioning and garnishing dishes and controlling the presentation according to recipe (Portion Control).
o Monitoring the quality of the dishes by checking the freshness of raw materials, defects etc.
o The cleaning of the environment, food processors and equipment and other working materials.
o Working in a hygienic manner in accordance with HACCP regulations.
o To work as safe as possible, with a view to preventing accidents at work.
o The reporting of technical failures in the department so that they can be remedied as quickly as possible.
o Preparing the orders and getting them from the stores. All orders must be approved by the Head Chef or Sous Chef.
o Ensure proper storage and processing of various products.
o Support students and trainees where needed.
o Work 100% compliant with the Standard Operating Procedures of the Element Hotel Amsterdam.
o Participating in the multi-skilling program.
o Attending training if desired.
o Performing any other tasks which may be reasonably expected of you in our hotel.


Technical knowledge, skills & abilities:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities.

o Must be able to speak, read, write and understand Dutch & English.
o Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
o Knowledge of all HACCP standards.
o Demonstrates a correct and safe use of all materials.
o Knowledge of hotel all procedures relating to hygiene, health, fire and safety.
o Complete knowledge of the staff handbook and the kitchen manual.
o Thorough knowledge of the kitchen and everything is served.
o Being able to control the quality and the service standards.
